Adapted Aquatics Program

The purpose of this program is to provide a fun, interactive water class for children with special needs. Each class will contain a variety of movements, games, and swimming skills. These activities are intended to increase the participant’s activity and comfort levels in the water. Caregivers are required to be in the water with their children at all times. Maximum participants per class: 6

Bubblemaker Experience

The Bubblemaker Experience is a great way to introduce children to scuba diving in a pool in less than six feet of water. Under the supervision of a PADI instructor, children get to learn about and use scuba diving equipment made for kids. Each child will also receive a Bubblemaker crewpak (kid-sized beach towel, log book, certificate, temporary tattoo, and Bubblemaker action figure).

Certified Pool/Spa Operator® Certification Program

CPO® certification courses are designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. The Certified Pool/Spa Operator® certification program has delivered more training than any other program in the pool and spa industry since 1972, resulting in more than 282,000 successful CPO® certifications in 64 countries. The CPO® certification program is widely accepted by health departments. Instructors receive comprehensive training and certification to teach the CPO® certification program. These instructors represent every segment in the aquatic industry including operators, health officials, service professionals, builders, manufacturers, property managers, retailers, and academicians. The training these instructors provide has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities.

Competitive Stroke Clinic

Intended for children seeking to improve their stroke technique, this stroke clinic will cover a different competitive stroke each class, as well as flip turns, open turns, and diving. The goal of this stroke clinic is to better prepare individuals interested in competitive swimming. Participants must have completed ARC Swim Lessons Level 3 or equivalent. Maximum participants per class: 6

Discover Scuba Diving

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving will let you try scuba to see if you like it. During this experience you will learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. This is not an actual certification. Maximum participants per class: 4

Fitness Swimming for Adults

Whether you’re training for a triathlon or just looking to get into shape, this class is for you. An instructor will have a new swim workout for participants each morning. While endurance is the primary goal of this class, our instructor will also be available to correct stroke technique and suggest drills for further improvement.

Lifeguard Course

Commodore Wilbert E. Longfellow started the American Red Cross Life Saving Corps in 1914 in order to reduce the number of lives lost as a result of drowning. Today, the Red Cross continues to offer the highest quality of training standards and program materials.

Requirements

  • Must be 15 or older
  • Attend all training sessions
  • Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick
  • 100 yards breaststroke
  • 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing, or breaststroke or a combination of both
  • Swim 20 yards (front crawl or breast stroke), surface dive to a depth of 7 1/2 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return with it to the surface, and swim back 20 yards.
  • Perform all required skills with 100% accuracy
  • Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%

Lifeguard Instructor Course

If you're at least 17 years old and have a basic-level Lifeguarding certificate, you can become an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor. Learn how to train lifeguard candidates to protect the lives of others! You can teach them the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Become certified to teach the following:

  • Lifeguarding (including First Aid)
  • CPR/AED for Lifeguards
  • Lifeguard Management
  • Administering Emergency Oxygen
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Basic Water Rescue
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Scuba Review Course

Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them to swim, help children and adults refine their strokes or teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16. Fundamentals of Instructor Training Course (FIT). Demonstrate swimming skills consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4, by swimming the following strokes: Front Crawl - 25 yards; Back Crawl - 25 yards; Breaststroke - 25 yards; Elementary backstroke - 25 yards; Sidestroke - 25 yards; Butterfly - 15 yards. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling). Tread water for 1 minute.
